    Windows 7 Release Candidate

Any of you guys trying it? Availble for download now for a year.

I've just installed and I'm running it now. First impressions - it's quick.

It's like Vista should have been.

The install took about 20 minutes.

Startup is quick. Animations are slick but not over the top.

    Anyone else trying it?

Hell yeah Ive been on this since build 7000!
The new one should be done for when I get home, but means loads of backing up to install
And of course the 10Gb of WoW and AoC updates, 2Gb of PST email, etc etc.
    Not gonna be pleased.
Might do just to nab the 64Bit version tho!

I've been running the 64-bit Beta and I've been very impressed. I'm downloading the RC now but don't know when I'll have the time to back everything up and reinstall it all.

I'm not that hard to imitate. Just make some random negative claim at Apple or anything else for that matter and then have nothing to back it up.

I don't really see that as a problem - if you're running beta software it will expire - they've given us a year to test this software and then we can upgrade to the paid for version (or rather just pay for the version we have runnnig assuming the updates we have will make it up to date).

I remember how Vista didn't have a clear way to upgrade from the beta to final.

It will probably be the same. But with shutdowns every 2 hours. To hell with that.

The reboot limitation does seem kind of dumb, although very microsoft-esque; it doesn't start until the 31st of March though - presumably leaving everyone with plenty of time to purchase a key if the Q3 release predictions are correct.

Each new version of windows feels more and more like OS X, which is probably a good thing.

Meh, the shutdown doesn't really bother me. I've got WVista on a different partition for when that starts happening. Good to see they cleaned up the awkward navigation from Vista, so far the only things I'm not liking are the condensed start-menu and taskbar, if I'm not used to it in a few days though I'll probably just set it to the old style.

    Looking good so far though.

Decent boot, so far the nav seems stream lined, I'm digging it. Things seem a little more intuitive than with vista.
