i need to know of a program that i can use to create 3d models to import into swift3d. It'd help a lot if it were easy to use.

    thanks

There are a lot of free models on the web in .3DS format that will import into Swift. If you're looking to do something more extensive, then any package that exports to .3DS (or to a format that can be converted to .3DS) will fit the bill.

    What is your budget?

anything under say, $200, and i'd help if it was easy, i'm no 3d expert, but i'd like to create semi-complex models.

Well, everyone has their own view of 'easy' and 'semi-complex,' so I recommend starting slow, simple, and at the lowest possible cost.

    Try Strat3D - http://shop.3d.com/strata/strata3d/index.html

You might get some other good recommendations in the sub-$1000 range - I've heard good things about TrueSpace and Hash Animation Master. My direct experience is sort of at the other end of the spectrum, so take these recommendations with a grain of salt

    Good luck and have fun!

From what I have heard, Nendo is a good program and exports 3ds. It is $99.

    Thanks, DK.

I haven't used it in quite some time, but Nendo combines what many would call box modeling with a pretty cool paint facility.

Strata is a free download and I think there is a Nendo trial, so you could do your own comparison.

Everything I say is true, modulo something

    Hey Matrix,

My free strata 3d download does not export 3ds. Does yours?
I have used it with file conversion programs, but I was wondering if they added this functionality to the free version.

The last I checked, there was a claim of 'new export' options with the free version - don't know if that includes .3DS.

Your point is well taken about requiring a conversion program - all the better if toggletek can compare trial/free versions before settling in on the best option.

    thanks!
