Im using an MC object that follows the users mouse, I'm also using another MC for buttons. the only MC that works is the one that controls the follow the mouse feature. My buttons are not button anymore they just sit there. Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

does your mc with the names have a button on them?

are you using duplicate movie clip to get them on the stage?

the buttons are in one movie clip and no they do not have names. Should I give them each a instance name?

then I putting that MC on the stage, instance name roster and then putting the Ball MC on stage called moving Ball.

i was saying to make one button that is the background for each name and then use duplicateMovieClip for each team member.

that way each button will behave the same and changing one will change them all.

is that what you have going on now?

    Flash MX

ok here we go. I'll try and explain this as best I can.

I created a button for each person, with a MC attached for the over(the highlight effect),
then I dragged each button to a MC called roster I then use that MC on the main stage.
Then I use the moving ball MC on the main stage as well.
So on the main stage I have a MC of the all the buttons, not for each one but the MC that contains all of them, and the moving ball MC on the main stage. So I have 2 MC's on the main stage.

    hope that explains it.

well, i dont know how much you want to change what you did, but heres a little bit of how i would do this.

make a mc for your name background. it can have an over state and a out state, but its just a movie clip.
add a layer and put a dynamic text field on top of the background and call the text field var name.
add another layer and put an invisible button on top. an invisible button is a button with something only it the hit frame, nothing in the over or out frames.
when you put the button on your name mc, you can code the on(rollover) and on(rollout) to use your over and out state for the mc, _parent.gotoAndPlay("Over").

now in your library, right click the button and choose the lilnkage. choose the export for actionscript box and fill in any name you want to call it, mcName will work

now you can create an array of your players and loop through using
    attachMovieClip("mcName", "mcName" + i, 100 + i);
to bring each button onto the stage.
then set mcNames properties to put it where you want it and fill the dynamic text field with the name.

do you need a sample fla to see how this is done?
