    Cool

I would suggest you pick up a book on basic design. You can look at page layout in magazines like adobe, how, print, etc. And see whats going on in the print world. See how they use color, Fonts, Texture, Value, Line, Shape. You can also look at tv to get some ideas. And of course look at other sites. If you have a local university I would audit a design class. What you learn in that class will save you hours of frustration on the computer. Regards, Bill

In the beginning the web was without shape and color, and the hype covered the darkness of the net. Then there was a Flash and life came to the web and vision became reality.

i am fairly new to flash but learning new skills all the time.

A great site I use to get ideas is http://www.coolhomepages.com - this is a large site of links to sites that either use flash or are just very cool in design. I hope this helps - it certainly helps me when my design mind isnt working =)

You might want to check out a few on-line design sites, here's a couple to get you started:<br /><br />

It's a jumping off point for finding the best online designs. We'll also be adding a Flash and Book section too if you are unsure which books to blow your money on.

    Good luck.

I'd say TV is a great source, so much animation that you don't even notice it anymore...

go have a look at www.vir2l.com its really dope if you are interested in designing (combined) with flash4!! You have to go see that site. And PLEASE dont give up when you cant get further than the intro page. Just click the button with the number 1 or the one with the number 2. It are 2 versions. I like them both very very much!!!

I know for sure (almost) that if you come back from THAT site, you'll have plenty of inspiration to do some new flash design stuff!!!

    Remember: design, design, design!!
    Its art, and its yours!

As far as tips go: Keep it simple.

One thing I have found in designing is that no matter what a user says, what they do is more important. For the most part (aside from targetting an audience), users tend to go back to sites that a) have good solid content b) are easy to read and c) layed out in a simple, useable manner.

Simple does not mean boring either. Small differences, such as shades of the same color can go a long way. The same goes for shapes.

If you watch the trends in magazines, pay attention to visual spacings then try to apply it to a web design, using teh same proportions. You are likely to find that page layouts don't function neaarly the same on screen (due mostly to resolution of the monitor).

On a fundamental level, I have to say that I disagree that design is art. When the two worlds are brought together in the creation of something there is a lack of clarity in the work, often leading to a less impactive body of work. Typically for the online world, when art and site design are combined, the usability of the site is reduced and the user is left frustrated or saying 'wow, that was neat, but what the hell did it mean?'
