Several of the flas I have downloaded recently have been umopenable on download, giving me the error "unexpected file format". For example: http://www.flashkit.com/jump.php?ID=7358&type=movies.

So you're downloading it, unzipping it, and then opening it in Flash?

I just tried the one you link to and it worked like a gem.

Yep. Download, unzip and then attempt to open it. A colleague is having the same trouble. Could it be anything to do with our network? I thought zipping would protect it from email systems etc.

    Possibly be MX files?
I had the same problem a couple months back with some .fla's (not from here though)
Then more an more FLA's started giving me the same problem too...
Then I got Flash MX and had no problems at all with the files that were giving me problems.

Could "unexpected file format" be that it's stored as an MX file an version 5 can't understand the headers?

a simple dialog box that states "Unexpected File Format" normally just means it's an FlashMX file.

this is all assuming you're using Flash5 on a PC.

Youre not using a pirate copy of MX are you? This can cause the problem.

Thanks, I am still using Flash 5 so I guess that must be the problem. Thanks to all for your help.
