    I just added another hidden movieclip on stage, that takes out the _width and _height.

    Just an empty movieclip with following Event-code:

    onClipEvent(load) {
    mywidth = _root.placeholder._width;
    myheight = _root.placeholder._height;
    uddateAfterEvent();
    }

    mywidth and myheight will rise while loading and show you the loaded height and width.

    Hope that helps.

    using height and width is not too reliable though. I have had more than one instance where my return was undefined. The only truly effective way to check a load in using your initial method.

    If the height is undefined, then the image doesn't exist.
