    What are Masks in Animation most commonly used for? I know how to use them but I dont know why I would need to.

    When you want to show/hide certian parts of a graphic or make a particular part of the stage visible for some layer(s) content...

    Its just used to show a specific thing at a specific time. Like if you have a whole bunch of crap that you want to happen in an area and it all starts away from it....the mask would only show whats in the area.

    Well, if you were making an animation about Batman, and you didn't use a mask, then everyone would recognize that he was Bruce Wayne.

    Seriously, using a mask only allows what's under the mask on the previous layer to show through. For example, if you had an animation of a livingroom window, and your mask was a rectangle the size of the window, you could have images passing behind the mask that were larger than the mask, and it would appear that the images were passing by the window outside.
