    Can someone please tell me when I should use levels instead of layers. I still don't get the difference.

    Usually if I want something to appear above something else, I usually put it on a layer above. If I load an external swf or jpg, I load it into an empty movie clip located on a higher layer.

    So when would I use levels?

    Sorry that note didn't help me much and I have the same question.

    What IS level0 exactly? Is it the main timeline? is it the main timeline underneath a movie clip on the stage? I'm not doing anything with ANY other swf's, just one. I'm not loading any others into it... so is the whole thing level0?

    in your case _level0 = _root = the main timeline...
