Hey All ... I had a look at one of the sites that was nominated for the best site of the week:

    http://www.davidgarystudios.com/

and I emailed Gary to find out that he designed the WHOLE site in Flash! I'm like, what-the!?!?! How the heck can you get that kinda chrome look so good!? Not even Swift can generate something that clean.

    Can anyone help!?
    thanx

why not just use some thoughtfully planned gradients and bitmaps?

  3. #3

    resolved exactly ... but how?!

I can see that that is what he has done ... but literally HOW did he do it? ... how did he get the gradients to do what he wanted? Is there a big diff in Flash5 when it comes to gradients?

I think its cool, but he needs a preloader bad, it took forever to load with my 56k modem, and it still took awhile on my cable modem. But everything else I love, great work he does.

    Hiya Guys,

Thanks for the kind compliments on my work!
I did want to relay however, that I DO have a preloader
on the "Full Throttle" site. Its a 5kb pong game while the
main interface(150k) loads. If you guys are not seeing this
especially on a 56k then I might have a problem. However this is the first report of such a problem. Ive got cable in my studios so I do not get the preloader after clearing my cache since the main.swf loads too quickly. I have noticed some small glitches(possible flash(TM) bugs) within the site when things load to quickly though.

Anyway please report any technical probs to info@davidgarystudios.com

    Thanks again for the feedback.

P.S. The site was created with Flash(TM)3. The site does not support ActionScripting because of this. Also there were no gradient libraries at the time of creation. Layers, alpha channels, and gradients are the trick to illustrative vectors.
