    This may seem like a stupid question - but here goes. I am a new user to flash and am trying to learn it. A friend sent me a movie in a swf file format. I am trying to open it and edit it and I cannot. Can anyone help me.

    That is not a stupid question.

    I will tell you why...
    the .swf is protected from Import.

    You need the .fla or an unprotected .swf
