The floppy disk drive is broken, it wants to format anything I put in it.

My serial port is busted, big dent in it.

I can't find my parrel to parrel cable to do a direct file transfur.

    What do I do?

    CD maybe?

Are you wanting to install drivers?

You could always by a usb floppy drive...or borrow one from a friend with a laptop that uses one.

There is a 25 page word document on there that I don't want to re-type.

    USB floppy sounds good...

Can't you go online with it and email it to yourself? That is probably to easy. Is there a problem with that also?

mail it , save it on internet or ftp it . u hav modem ???

usb floppy is a better idea but buying a new floppy drive for yur laptop is much more cheaper and also if u go buy yurself a new parellel cable for direct file transfer

if u can afford buy yurself USBXDRIVE and that is just for $79 (128MB) u can keep that in yur pocket Hardware Dimensions 2.5X0.5X0.8 inches (LXBXH)

ohkay... uhmm..98? you can do modem to modem, just one of the computers has to have a modem transfer software on it.. you can get it from http://www.tucows.com

and you have to dial him.. sorta utilizing the briefcase on the desktop.

Have you tried using someones dial-up account to email the file, or taking to a friends and using his dial up?

if you print it you can scan it with a text reading scanner which turns it back into a file

    that's all i got

Thank you so much for your help, its brilliant idea, only I have some bad news.

I uninstalled the modem software a long time ago because it was on a network and it was getting confused. The network software is on a floppy disk and I am back to the begining.

this is going to sound crazy but you could take a pic of the screens (with a digital) and put it on your other comp using an OCR to change it to text. Well in theory it works... ofcourse I cant imagine many people doing that. ha

Let us know how it goes.
