Hi - my boss wants me to stream some video on our site - now, I was going to just popup an html window with some feeds on UNTILL he tells me that somebody he worked with once managed to have video INSIDE a flash movie. "Cant be done in flash5" I said but then he sends me a link with a crude windows media file embedded into it! - it didnt work on my Mac with i.e but I was just surprised to see it embedding the windows media player apparently it was just done by embedding html into flash and then running the movie through the html or something like that

What im asking iiiiiiiis... is this just possible with windows media files and will it just work in windows?

My boss really wants this i think but I have yet to see it working and think it will be easier for me just to popup another html window with Real, quicktime and Windows versions

    thanks alot for your help

    Umm no

You've found out something I did the hard way.
I thought windows media player embed tags would work on mac's with ie.

    There are alternatives though.
You can stream video swf's with programs such as
    Flix http://wildform.com
    swideo http://swideo.com
    and others.

Also one trick I learned being flash dumb (swish user)
convert the avi to a gif Then import the gif into a movie.

Without a preloader a movie will play as it loads.
well if you have an animated gif running playing as it's loading you have essentially streaming content.
This of course means no sound.,,,,,,

mmm... I guessed it wouldnt work on a Mac - do you know how reliably it works on a PC? its just that Ive got to build up a case to my boss to persuade him not to use it

the gif idea wont work in this instance as we want to stream a live video broadcast

    thanks for your help

The programs above can stream swf videos.

All I spoke of was the windows embed not working on mac

Windows embed works fine on pc's with ie 5 and above

Some of the params fail when you try to run it on Netscape navigator.

I've written tutorials on windows embedded files before and how to use swish to control them.

Although intended for audio the same things will work for video.

    try http://www.flashants.com

they have a software which lets you control windows medial player files. Also if your requirement is for very tight integration of flash video check this out, it only requires Flash 4 player. (200kbps stream)
