First of all, I need to let you in on a little secret: almost all, if not ALL, freehosts that offer anything for a real web designer, are going to fail, with or without ads. They cannot afford to continue to run for long. The only one with a legitimate funding base as a paid-ISP, f2s, no longer offers free hosting. How do I know this? I used to help run one.

Secondly, if you're still sure you want a free host, instead of a really cheap and powerful paid one( I use http://imagelinkusa.com ), the host I used to help run has come out of the water for a bit and has pretty good service. It's address is http://www.digital-host.net There are experienced people there, but a free host is still a free host, and I wouldn't bet my life by one.

Good luck, and I feel your pain about the free host dilemma.

Tripod.uk offers 50MB's of free space with PHP and MySQL support. There are ads of course, but they will transfer all of your files and database to a "paid" account of theirs if you want to eventually go that route. I don't think Lycos is going anywhere soon!

    colecov,

Wow, that is quite impressive for a free host. However, I have heard Tripod's MySQL is buggerred out much of the time. Also, don't be so sure about Lycos Network going anywhere..many thought HomeStead, F2S, among others, wouldn't either.
