Thread: MX/ Director

  1. #1
    Hi,

I want to clarify what things can be done in Flash MX and Director

I need to work on putting a video (a course) online or in CD and send that to distance learning students.

So, basically: I need to put the video and according to the video clips/ sections, I need to put some animation in Flash along with the video and, if needed the text underneath with play controls.

Also, if I need to go to steaming video (putting the course online), what are the things I should consider?

So, what is the advantage of going over Director for this application? I read that video applications can be done with Flash MX.

If you know some links where there are tutorials for this kinda applicatoin, please give it!!

    Advanced thnx!!

I would say go the Director route if you're going to be doing lots of cd work with video. If time is an issue I'd say that you could probably get away with using flash MX. For more indepth fed back on the cd aspect of things I'd post in standalone part of these boards.

If you are going to be streaming using flash you need to consider banwidth of course and its quite demanding on the CPU. If you have no experience in flash it will be quite hard to explain how flash treats video so I'll leave that to someone else.

Basically if you place the footage in a MC(movie clip) it will have to load 100% before it will play but you can use it over and over with out having to load it again. Or have say 3 clips playing at the same time but you only need to load one. Ok but this is not streaming. If you put the footage directly on the main timeline (_root) it will stream but you will be loading it in and unable to use this footage over and over without constantly loading it.

    I would check out:

On the right is a flash director comparison.

For making the kinda of thing you mentioned:

I would take the feature tour of flash MX to see how they used video. Even on 56k modem.

    Check this guys portfolio out:

For books I like foundation MX and Flash MX video from:
http://www.friendsofed.com/ but they also do foundation Director 8.5.

Flash video look at Flix too.

Oh and there are also these boards of course.

    Later.
