everything is grunge if you do it in a black sweater

sorry, cannot define what grungestyle is really about.

guess they use alot of dirtbrushes in grunge style along with
serif fonts, dark black white and brown colors.

sorry engstrom, not grunge at all . try to cut the geometric graphics. grunge is anything but geometry. it's a bit about chaos, disorder, impulsive emotions, etc.

Who cares what genre the art falls under (IMO). It looks cool (both of them). Your banner though, it should fall under the FK board specs.

Its much too large and will probably get pulled soon by a moderator.
Just my attempt at warning you.

I don't know what IMO means, but I disagree with you . It matters a lot! you can't expect some graphic design to please all just because it's cool! . and they trasmit different feelings, emotions and desires to the viewer.

i like doing grungy stuff - i suggest using textures as much as possible, try to find pictures of concrete and bricks and dirt, they work wonderfully.

next time you go somewhere, just take pictures of stupid things you'd never think would work well, that have texture.

The footer is way 2 big (please change it)

as for grunge, look in record stores (graphics), look at the ppl and if u can go 2 a pub where they drink, also importantly listen to the music

u need to understand a bit of what they are about before u can create art in that style (eg. train graffiti) its a whole new world

my be quite a good experience as well 4 u

What I meant was that there is no defined 'grunge' style. It can be anything you make it. Grunge is an attitude, not a specific guideline.

    Just my opinion, anyway -

This is what I would class as a type of grunge, becoming quite a fav style of mine because of its production simplicity

Well, with buildings and plus signs - some would classify it as post modernistic. But, who really cares what category it falls into. Maybe you might just be creating your own.
    Good work!

    Respectfully -

good thinking! I have some problems with creating chaos.. don't like to "kill" my pictures.. and to make them non-computerlike..

interesting thought.. and I guess your're right.. the style "grunge" is so much more then just creating an black-white picture without symmetry in total choas.

go live in seattle for a while...once you have had it with constantly grey days and elvis prestly music, you will find yourself slipping into "the grunge state."

I agree that grunge should be dirty. If I were to classify it, i would say it is like the 90's hippies. Anti-establishment in a "down with the suit-n-ties" kinda way. Go watch some Nirvana music videos, they are just plastered with the grunge attitude. Grunge should have lots of greyish earth tones. Nothing bright. Your first piece, engstrom, i would classify more as gothic. The arches in the background reminded me of French butresses.

I think that grunge can be simply summed up in the voice of Cobain.

engstrom...are you stoned or stupid, change your footer to meet FK reqests.

Perhaps before moving over to grunge you should ask yourself whether you are desiging for an audience or for yourself.
As mentioned in an above post, there is no set "Standard" for this particular style.
Try visiting sites such as htttp://www.deviantart.com and pick up some brushes and free stock photography.

Would you like a copy of the .psd for the image I posted above?

    Good Luck
