As mentioned in an above post, there is no set "Standard" for this particular style.
Try visiting sites such as htttp://www.deviantart.com and pick up some brushes and free stock photography.

Would you like a copy of the .psd for the image I posted above?

    Good Luck

LOL! I have a bit of the same problem! But my designs tend to "light up", because I love using vivid colours.

i would say the image is more gothic than grunge, could be the cover for a frankenstein book.

    i do like it though

you mind sending me the PSD? i love the "torn" effect you have around the bottom. I have tried to emulate it but with no success. Could I rip apart your piece?

Since I've gotten numerous requests via email for my PSD, I just wanted to let everyone know it is available for download here: http://www.jonnorris.com/downloads/image2v2.zip

The basis for this was a photo posted here on FK some time last year for an image manipulation deal. I was experimenting with various styles and ended up with this image. For all the little grungy layers, you can either scan different items or just simply use some of the hundreds of grunge brushes available on the web for Photoshop. One of the best resources is here: http://veredgf.fredfarm.com/vbrush/main.html
