    here goes:

I need to make light emit from a text. Imagine a black background and from it the word let's say LIGHT cut out. Behind that bground is a light source and the light comes out only through the letters towards the viewer widening in perspective

    something like this

    light source.........0
    ......................./.\
    ....................../...\
    bground -------------------
    with "light"......./......\
    text cutout ..../........\

    viewer.................0

(ignore the dots. the "/" and "\" are rays of light)

    does this make any sense?

mx_kid - exactly like that, only the light rays should be more natural
    how did you do it?

vatcher - really? maybe I could consider 3dsmax, it's just that I never thought of it
    but for now, only photoshop

i dunno, if you were just working in photoshop and you didnt need exact lighting based realistically on the text, photoshop would be fine.. (and 3ds max is expensive)
