registrar transfer - monkey business
Here is the deal: a webhosting company is offering transfer of registration as well in their shop. This reads similar to:
The benefits of transferring your registration to xyz are:
A registrar transfer to xyz includes an additional 1 years registration. Our renewal fees are inexpensive and administering the domain is very easy. Transferring the registration will not change the location of the domain so there is no disruption to your web site.
So you pay in advance, and then after a while you start getting emails from them that they do not get responses from the current registrar (network solutions)
.....
and here is their fine print:
Your current registrar can deny a transfer for several reasons:
- At the discretion of the current registrar : ~ The current registrar of your domain can also deny the transfer at their discretion. Your transfer cannot however, be denied without a valid reason.
If the transfer fails due to a lack of authorization within the specified time period or due to rejection by your current registrar then unfortunately we will be unable to return any fees.
In plain words, this means that network solutions can - and does - force payment for another year by just not responding, and the prospective new registrar gets money for that
