    simple question: flash vs director

    about flash and director:

thats like compairing a mini cooper with a fully kitted out Audi R6
^ that was a comparison oriented about scripts

    now, my question is:

in term of fluidity (framerate) what about director? i used it one year ago, doing a game essentially with .swf files (that was maybe not a good solution, but that's what i did), but it was a little bit slower than a normal .swf game, in my opinion...

    ...what if i used gifs?
an example: as you probably know, i'm currently doing a fighting game (http://www.marmotte.levillage.org/ga...r_fighter.html). that game is done with a lot of gifs (i mean, there's no tweens, no gradients...). but the scrolling seems to slow down the game, depending the power of your computer.
now, i want to know, if i did that game with director, will it slow down less, or much? maybe someone that knows the two programs has an idea?

    thanks

It would probably be faster in director. The only problem with director is that you need to by a plugin to make the bitmap edges smooth enough which is a real pain.If the fps of your game is too high though you will have the same problem that you are getting at the moment

Director is much(!) faster with manipulation graphics(pixel) then Flash.

I've seen a scrolling test once. Director was fasts with scrolling a gif. Director scrolling an SWF was slower.

well, if i remember correctly, i used .swf files in director because the gifs were awful (with a white border around the characters), and that's why i choose to do it that way.

now about the plug-in, i'll look for it and some screenshots, thanks hexagone.

    but, the fact is:
    1) i'm still very newbie with director
    2) the publication is not a cross platform file, i think

Although I haven't seen numbers, Director is way faster.

And you can do SO many cool things in Lingo. Its definately a bit harder to code in, but once you get the hang of stuff, you'll love it. I've been meaning to do something significant in it.
The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.
