setting a movie clip colour

I am trying to create a system like the one used on www.pumasoccer.com with designing your own shudoh.

I am trying to do it with a fashion model. There are three main areas to be altered- head, body, and legs. I have been treating these as separate movie clips with different keyframes representing (for example) six different hats but does anyone know how to create a colour palette that will affect these independently or at least if it is possible to create three palettes for each movie clip????
