    Poor marketing by WWE.com

While watching wrestling tonight, there was a WWE commercial. It was extremely vague and had shot of the Ultimate Warrior running round with his theme music. At the end, there was just the text:

    WWEAnthology coming November 15th

    Which was then followed by:

    wweanthology.com

So I went to see what the hell it was and this is what I got:

Is the WWE wasting millions of dollars? You betchya.

I wish I had that much to waste. Millions of dollars is still millions of dollars.

All those millions of blue-collar US citizens watching wrestling. When they see it, they feel empowered; as if they really are those larger than life superheroes.

It makes me wonder: do they realise the guys in suits ALWAYS know in advance who wins and loses?

I don't just mean in wrestling. I mean in their lives.

Well, I know of one who does...

Two weeks ago there was a much anticipated Christian crusade of sorts, Encounter 2002, held in my small town in Delaware. Anyway, one of the guest speakers was a former pro wrestler, Ted Debiase, formerly known as "The Million Dollar Man," now a minister.

I've never been a fan of wrestling, and I believe that he was a big name some time back, but it was inspiring to hear his testimony and how much he loves the Lord.

Hmmm...so I guess WWE isn't big on the whole deadline thing.

WWE Marketing Exec: Hey, the commercial is airing on the 17th, how's that web site coming?

WWE Web dude: Huh? Oh, I thought it just had to be up on November 15th, man. Um, do you want me to put up a place holder page or something?

WWE Marketing Exec: Yeah, whatever gets the job done.

You know, I'm all for working in a laid back environment, but that just may go a bit too far.

When did the the WWF become the WWE?

[neither a big wrestling nor a big religion fan, just curious]

If one more thread turns into a religious debate, it's gonna get gangsta up in here real quick

Re: WWF/WWE, I think they lost the rights to the WWF name to the World Wildlife Foundation in a court battle.

re: State of WWE right now, from a friend who works there, the company is a total mess. Doesn't surprise me that they would overlook a web site not being finished.

    Yes,

They lost the naming rights becuase the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) had trademarked it a long long time ago and kept it paid up. The story got a 20 second sound bite on my local radio station.

Lots of people like Wrestling... no need to critcize people for what they like to spend their entertainment dollars on. Heck just look at all those people who went to see Master of Disguise in the movie theater.

So just to add more ammo to your en masse assumptions that I am an uneducated clod, the 'F' was Federation...

    What's the 'E' stand for?

That's the best they could come up with?

    Entertainment?

    World Wrestling Entertainment?

As a name for an organization that, in no uncertain terms, sucks.

    thanks, though Gerbs

Considering they are branching out into music, movies and other formats of television, I think that Entertainment is perfect. They wanted as small of a change as possible.

Maybe they should have called themselves something dot-commish like Bizient Synergies, Inc.

Perhaps if they are getting away from the core product, Entertainment ain't so bad, but it's still not got that 'Federation' ring to it.

I can only hope that these new ventures are not further vehicles for the limited talents of their wrestling stables - are they? Please say no.

(What was that Hulk Hogan movie? - yeah, I can't remember either)

Apparently the WWE are going to appeal this decision in the ring... I think you'll see a wrestler cracking a Panda over the head with a chair while a Galapagos Turtle pile drives some nong in jumpsuit.

"ohh he's mad - that Turtle didn't like being turned on his back, watch out Hulk!, ohh damn the turtle's got him in an eight count..."
