thanks abumslife...it actually only took 3 hours to make, using LightWave. i'm a relative n00b when it comes to texture mapping, so the most frustrating part was getting the eyes to line up and fit to scale correctly.

hey, I like the little character already. done in lightwave, eh? nice...

has a very stylized look to it. love the hat, btw.

thanks man...i appreciate it! yep, box modeled in lightwave7. the hat was pretty easy...just a 1/2 sphere w/ the bottom row of polygons smooth shifted once and beveled twice...then obviously subdivided.

i actually have a question: i'm planning on rigging/animating the character eventually...the model is currently in separate pieces on separate layers, and i was wondering if i'll have to stitch the pieces together in order to animate or if i could just throw all the objects into one layer, set up bones, and animate. which would produce the best results, in your opinion?

personally? I'd save the layered version, put it aside. now, work on placing all of the character pieces onto one layer, weld any vertices/meshes where a flex might show seams, and assign your bones to the character.

then, I would - if it's possible in lightwave (I'm showing my bias here, it's been a long time since I've used it) - create associations between my clothing layer and my character layer, and if it's possible, maintain an (distance) offset between the two... and if one moves, the other should move along.

other ways of doing this, btw. that's just one. hope that helps.

you've helped a ton...thank you! i won't have enough free time to work on this for a few weeks, but i'll keep you updated on my progress. would you keep the pants & shirt separate, or would you merge the objects and "droop" the shirt half over the pants half?

gerbick...i'm not familiar w/ any reasons why WMLeeBo and/or vatcher don't belong here...is there a thread you can point me to, or a specific reason that you have? i'd hate to have any input w/out knowing the circumstances.

if he doesn't want me here, the only reason i can think of is that i made some comments that can be taken the wrong way over in the swift forum

from the way he said it, he put my name after the exiled part so i don't think he meant that for me...just doesn't know what to do with me...

you're exactly right...i wasn't reading "exiled" as a screen name, and thought gerbick was asking our opinions. i'm very sorry for the misunderstanding...thanks for clearing the up, Mouse!

yeah, I meant exiled archangel, vatcher, and wmleebo... screen names of some rather active 3D members. just asking some of the people that I've talked to in some depth in the past about what did they think.

normally, it's just to stimulate creative thought, and also to show that there is usually more than one way to tackle a project/concept in 3D. And of course, it's open to whomever wishes to add their educated opinion...
