    Extruding in 3dsmax

Ok, whenever I create a spline or some other object - I can extrude it once, but then I can't figure out how to give it another dimension... This is really fustrating me and I'm sure its very easy. Help!

in dimension you mean make it thicker?, well over to the right side of the screen near the top there is this tab with a quarter blue lookin circle with lines splitting it into 3 sections, well this is the modifier panel if you have any idea what i am talking about

in there you can select the extrude modifier and below the select panel you'll see the parimeters for the modifier, from there you can make it thicker

Yes, thats what I'm saying. I'll extrude it once, then after that how can I extrude it again in a different dimension?

For instance, I'll extrude the x axis, but then I want to extrude the z axis too... It won't let me do it.

    Thanks

you can only extrude it once, why would you extrude a 3d object(which is not possible) on the z axis?

hmmmm this is hard to explain:
I'll make a spline, then extrude it. Now its still flat - How can I give it volume? If that makes any sense. Thanks

once you extrude it has volume, you just have to vary the thickness with the thickness option to the right as one of the extrude perimeters

Alright, I have some simple examples....
Forgive me if I'm being a bit stupid, I'm still trying to get max down, and this is something thats not in the tutorials

    Alright, I make a spline:

    Then I extrude it:

Now, heres what I want, to give it a third dimension since it is still flat. How can I pull this side out:

Now, this is just an example, I don't necessarly want to make a square, the line could be curvy, I just need to get this down.

    Thanks

    i understand what you mean

that is not possible to do - you have to make it a shape, like say draw a curvy line, and then duplicate it on the other side and then connect the top and the bottom - that will give you a 3d shape, but hollow (which shouldnt matter)

extrude once convert to a mesh or poly(or whatever you want) then you can extrude. why are you using a spline to extrude anyway?

    extrude

It sounds like you are looking for the bevel modifier.
You can extrude in 4 levels I believe.
