    ::Re-designed Sites::

    ::Re-designed Sites::

    I've just completed extensive re-designs of my Flash-based personal and freelance sites:

    http://www.markgoldstein.co.uk [Personal Site]

    and

    http://www.designauthor.com [Freelance Site]

    I'd really appreciate it if you could take a look at one or both sites and let me know what you think.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    markgoldstein - very nice, not sure about the orange on blue though, not to my taste and seems a little hard to read, maybe thats just me though. Very nice picture section, glad you enjoyed my home county of Cornwall, Eden really is a great place to photograph.

    design-author- the orange works a lot better here I think. Very nice smooth site, has the funkiness of flash without the over the top flashiness that has become the trend

    I think the design of both sites are nice and clean. The only thing I question is why you have used Flash at all on the 1st site when to me, it seem to be the sort of site where HTML would have pulled it off better and the second site really only the header and the nav really need to be in Flash. I only say this coz if i were visting your design site as a potential customer having a little knowledge, I would wonder about your skill set.

    defuzz has hit the nail on the head with "funkiness of flash without the over the top flashiness that has become the trend" - this is what I was aiming for with both sites.

    I agree that markgoldstein.co.uk could've been done with HTML, but it's a lot quicker to do in Flash from a design point of view. Also the scrollbars used throughout the site can only be done with Flash or iFrames, which exclude non-IE browsers.

    I liked the second site, very nice layout and use of colour, the work you do is quality, the first site lacked the eyecatching colour combo of the second, but hey thats just my personal tastes, everyone has different perspective. Nice Good luck!

    Any suggestions for a better colour combination for markgoldstein.co.uk?
    I've had a number of comments back now that the blue/orange colour scheme isn't the greatest...

    How about, instead of orange lettering, a complimentry colour combo to the blue such as yellow/cream or a Prussian blue.

    If you want a sitewide change then may I suggest the following colour combos;

    1. #996600 and #99CC99 (nice brown and light green)

    tell you what I'll stick some up on my server,

    I think I liked the 5th one down best (red/blue), but maybe with white text instead of red? The 6th one is also good too. I'll save that page to my hard-drive :-)

    Thanks for the help!

    I really like both of them, nice and clear, easy to navigate, nice s ubtle colour schemes.
    The menu test on the 2nd one is a litle blurry, but i dont think this detracts from the look and feel.
    one question,
    the nice crisp fonts in sections such as "Profile" are these set as device fonts?

    Yes, the main body text font for Design Author is the _sans device font.
    For markgoldstein.co.uk, it's a pixel font called standard 07_54 (from miniml.com I think...).

    Hi,

    I've changed the colour-scheme of the entire site to something that's hopefully more clear and appealing:

    http://www.markgoldstein.co.uk

    Please take a look and let me know what you think...
