When I load an external swf using load and target, it just about wrks (I had trouble because it was in a mc placed on main timeline) however when it loads an external swf in the mc (which also contains the buttons) it jumps a frame on the main timeline each time it is clicked.
Any suggestions on how to stop this PLEASE!

are u using _root.gotoAndPlay(frame) ?!

try to use just gotoAndPlay(frame) or this.gotoAndPlay(frame)...

I'm not using gotoAndplay. I'm using loadmovie and target. It loads the movie but also moves 1 frame along the main timeline each time it is loaded...

I got it sorted, sort of combined logic with craziness...but it works
