Scrolling loaded text from .txt file

I am trying to use the flash ui component scrollbar
with a Dynamic Text box that i am loading text into from
various external .txt files. The text loads fine but the
Scrollbar does not seem to realise that the text needs to
Scroll. I have made sure the Scrollbar component is linked to
the text box. Is there something straightforward that I am
missing. I thought it was just a case of dropping the component
onto the Text box and away you go! Am I wrong. Maybe it is
because the text is loaded from an external file? I just dont know.
Could someone please put me out of my misery.

    Cheers in advance.

have you assigned/linked the scrollbar to the instance name of the text field? if it's assigned to the var name, it won't work. you need to assign linkage of the componant to it's instance name, whereas your external text is assigned to the var name of the text field.

    check that.

    Yep.

I have the component linked to the instance name of
the text box which is "jobs" the variable name of the text field
is "recruitText". The scrollbars Target TextField = jobs.

I didn't say that I am loading the text files via buttons but
I don't see how this could affect things anyway.Maybe I am wrong!

    Thanx 4 the link.

I have had a quick look and it may be that I am
loading the text incorrectly. ie using the old
v5 LoadVariables command. It looks as though this
is the prob. I will read through and try.

Thanks to both of you for your speedy replies.

one other thing is that when using the scollbar componant you need to load the text into the text box before assigning a scrollbar to it. otherwise it won't work.

it makes sense if you think about the sequence of events - the scrollbar needs some text to scroll! keep that in mind too.

    hope it helps
