    Swift 3d Mechanical dolphin

After the lightsaber, i promised to post the dolphin i've made with Swift 3d.
Cost me a few days to work on the dolphin and 3 minutes to render one frame. I must get a fast computer .
The image is 1024 / 768 so you all can save it as a wallpaper

    dude, that's hella sweet!

three minutes, per frame? understand that better than you'd think... I got one object that takes 10 minutes per frame.

and this is on a AthlonXP 1600mhz machine with 2gb of RAM!

Hey davyace thats some really nice work. I'm about to upgrade to V3 as soon as I finish this post.

How do you do that? It's just what I need to be able to do but with much less complicated shapes. I dont need a step by step but I'd really like to know how to get and apply those textures. I need to make a model of a dvd disc. Top and shiney side. Does V3 come with those textures or are they from your library? If they dont where can I get some?

Wow the lightsaber is awsome too.

A push in the right direction would be great.

    Cheers

all the materials reflective materials come with the program..i'm pretty sure the material he used was from swift 3d

but you can import your own images to make your own skins

Andy, great work. Since I'm new with swift, I was curious how long it took you to do this and the light saber? I have a few things I'm working on, and I wanted to know if it is taking me a while just because I'm new.

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for the great feedback.

The dolphin took me about 4 days and the lightsaber 2 or 3 days i think. I don't count the days
All the shapes and objects of the dolphin were drawin in Swift self.
It was difficult to draw each part.Except the tooth. They were done in flash and imported as an eps in Swift.
The dolphin was made in several t3d files and than copy and past in one file. Than I put all the parts together. I do that because it works better when you do first the body part, save it. Then the head part, save it.Open all the parts and put it together.
Before i begun building something in Swift i first look at tutorials
and did some experiments with the new tools. The most important thing in Swift 3d v3 is ,that you set the lights at its best position. To many lights on your object is not always that great.
A specially when you're making a chrome effect.

Is it just me or is that dolphin scary?
    Yes..... i scared him

Be afraid...be very afraid of the dolphin.

Sweet dolphin Andy. I am imagining a whole legion of mechanized dolphin minions who exist only to do by bidding. The world would be mine!!! Muuhaahhaaaaahaaaa!!

I just upgraded my Swift to version 3(because of your light saber)
I'm new to 3d, I bought v1 when it came out, great program, when v2 came out I was definitely excited. Seeing some of your work made me that much more excited about v3, so I upgraded.
Programs like 3DS Max and Lightwave scare the heck out of me. I have them both, never been able to create anything noteworthy. Swift 3D gives me a little more confidence in rending and modeling.
Still so many things to learn about 3d and v3, need to start practicing. What I need is some ted files to play with so I can see what the heck is going on! None the less, great work. I definitely hope to see more and hopefully will feel confident enough about posting my own work.

    Thanks,

    Mike
