I use a simple preloader for externals, cause it works best and is small. Preloaders have to load themselves before they will work, so a complicated loader just takes longer overall. Grab the one below and look at it. You can use this in either a separate scene by deleting the content layer, or as is and add your content to that layer. As a separate scene, add a gotoAndPlay, next scene, to the last frame in the "Labels" layer. And you would add this to the movie to be loaded, not your main movie.
