render text as html / XML / SQL

I'm populating textfields using a SQL 2000 db and XML as data transport with flash. I need to be able to render the text fields as html to embed links, bold characters etc. If I populate the text fields in my movie with actionscript and embed html tags, they work fine like always. When I copy the same string into a SQL field and then populate the text field with the db content, the textfield renders nothing past where the first html tag is.

Just wanted to check if anyone had experienced anything like this and could offer a solution....thanks!
