i lost interest after about 10 mins. No incentive , i found it too repetitive. Fortunately for me, i rented it so that was $5 down the drain

    Yep, that's the one

You know the universe in Elite 1 was infintely big? They had an algorithm that generated supposedly "pronounceable" names for it, so you couldn't go off the map...or at least that's what I heard.

I got about 3 screens from lave (where you start out)...

cool afaik though it wasnt infinate, did you get the map with yours? it was about 4 metres square! bloody great hanging on my wall i played that game for about 4-5 years and ended up with that huge starfighter (panther??) and a full crew plus shed loads of cash... i ended up taking on most of sol and went about destroying starports and outposts etc, great fun. im not sure how many screens i went, but i got about 3 metres across the 4 metres of universe lol

i think i was very close to needing councelling

hmmm... i feel the urge again.....

That doesn't sound like the Elite I know...the best ship you could get was the Cobra MkII a single-hander.
I never played Elite II...in Elite you couldn't land on any planets, only in the starports...it was all flat shaded graphics and lines.

Hold on, i'll see if I can work up some magic

This is the Elite I know

And as for ships, I remember better now; you couldn't ever upgrade! Stuck in the same old ship until you die (regularly).
