    Help me: Discouraging Kazaa

An old uni friend contacted me asking about Kazaa and wanted to know where he could get it. I wanted to discourage him getting it (think spyware and junk) and have been looking for articles but have not had luck so far.

Can you recall articles about Kazaa?

    Thanks.

Staying within the realms of non warez talk etc I can't really think of a clinching reason not to use kazaa lite as is.

Can't you make up a story like MI6 monitor all UK traffic through kazaa and they'll knock his/her door down when they download cracked software?

to be honest, I have not seen Kazaa in my own eyes before. I don't even use it. It is for music sharing or something is it?

Well in any case, there were a few articles -- some incredible ones.

I didn't know Kazaa is illegal?

    Kazaa is for sharing anything.

90% of the content is illegal though.

If he does use it, he should get Kazaa lite.

The biggest argument you'll probably have though is that most of the stuff is illegal.

    no they don't.

Everyone knows that it is MI5 who deal with inland intelligence, MI6 is for overseas.

Kazza, the software, is currently legal throughout the world (it is currently legal in america but this may change pending trial in US on it's liability over there).

I don't use Kazaa, but another P2P program (WinMX). Why discourage him from u sing it? Because it can distribute illegal objects? So can e-mail and instant messaging!

I'm not here to determine why he wants to use it, but it's a really good solution to sending large files over the net... Whether those files are illegal or not shouldn't be debated or else we may have a closed topic!

Clif: If this is the case then why is Kazaa freely available on download sites like zdnet.co.uk, downloads.net, tucows.com, etc...?

    That's why Prankster went down.

I would have prefered to give him an "official" article or something similar rather than through "word of mouth".
