    *Calling All Flash Designers PLEASEHELP*

I have a question for all you flash designers out there. I have designed several websites for people and I need/want to start charging for my work becuase other people make thousands of dollars doing this. Can you people give me a ball park figure of what you charge for a website? PLEASE HELP, I don't want to cheat myself just so I can keep clients, but I don't want to cheat my clients either. Please Help

    Depends on the site.

A ballpark figure for a small corporate flash site without database connectivity is about $500 - $1500.

I looked at the website you have listed on here. Not much there. Post a piece of your completed work and I'll try to give you my opinion of what your should charge.

Keep in mind, this is only MY opinion.

    Cheers

    example

This is what I'm designing for a church youth group, and when you click the buttons they will load into the locations that say place for movie 1, 2, etc. This one won't be very dynamic and I haven't added music, pictures, or sound yet. But that took almost an hour to create. to see it goto http://www.angelfire.com/ok5/messenjah/fusion/main.html

    Not Complete

While the graphics work is OK on the site, there is not enough there to determine anything about how much you should charge.

Do you have any completed work?

    No Problem

Ok, I see you know html pretty well. Start there. Incorporate flash elements into your html. The flash work is of beginner level. However - you have a good start. To begin, keep the flash elements to a minimum until you get a better grasp. ( Not that I'm a flash expert by any means. Im really just getting into flash. BTW, I have been a web designer/developer for four years )

I would say to start you may want to charge about $250 - $500 for a site like the Sponge Bob site. It has the most functionality.

    Work up from there.

Good Resources for finding freelance projects to get you started.

Also, contact the non-for-profits in your area. Propose building them a free website to build your portfolio. You will need more completed items in your portfolio to get freelance projects.

As I said before, this is only MY opinion.

    Good luck.

    Cheers

someone's gotta comment on the use of "voodoo child" on the church site.. hehe. It works, just funny

ps. do a search for price estimates for web design. The cost for web work varies greatly from country to country, state by state and even town by town. It's hard to charge high for flash work when knowone knows what flash is where your from! hehe. Check the costs with some local designers and base your price on their talent:cost ratio.

    Good luck!

Everyone here has given you great advice. Each time I see or hear this question I remember something I saw on 60 minutes:

When asked "how much do you charge", the great attorney Melvin Beli once said:

"When I have a potential client coming to meet me for the first time, I look out my window when I expect them to drive up. 'Oh, I see, this client drives a Rolls Royce, let me get out my expensive rate card. Wait a minute, that guy is going somewhere else, here's my client, driving up in an old beat up VW Bus, perhaps I should do this case Pro Bono'."

In other words, you are worth what the market can and will pay.
