Multiplayer game - updated, need opinions and a name!
Hello, about a month ago I posted my multiplayer game. Since then I have updated it, to include AI and basic missions. I am just looking for a bit of feedback on these newer features. The site is www.gecko-games.com . I am also wondering if the game at this state, is enjoyable to play. I obviously plan to add some more to it, more speed tweaks, and better graphics, But most of the basics are complete.
When you log in you can play as a guest so you will not be required to make an account.
Also I am looking for suggestions for a name, I just cant think of a decent one ARGH!

A few thinks, F12 is help, and F8 will show a map in the game
since im interested in missions,
To get a mission, while at the starbase, click on the Choose Mission button. Select the mission you want and read the breifing, It will describe what you need to do.
TO CHAT - seeing as no one was talking back
Press enter to highlight and select the chat field,
type your message, press enter to send the chat field will go dark again

DO NOT ACCEPT PATROL MISSIONS. currently ai spawns at a fast rate and you will never complete it. (temp bug)
Also, there is a wierd bug. If you cannot see your chat when you send a message (after a few tries) relog in. I need to trace that prob later on

due to the fact that people are saying the ai is to strong, i have made their weapons weaker.
random ai, uses guns 2 level weaker than your weakest gun (or the basic gun)
Mission,uses guns 1 level weaker than your weakest gun (or the basic gun)

hmmmmm, so you did listen to what I said. Good game, I enjoyed it alot. Just a suggestion though, you should add speed upgrades, some sort of missle, and a couple more ships to buy. Oh yeah, and the main screen was kinda plain and boring...

Most of your ideas I plan to implement. For a speed upgrade, I plan to include thrusters/afterburners that use energy or limited fuel. If the ships move too fast, lag between the players will become too bad. Currently you need to aim about 1/2 second infront of another players ship to hit him.

Patrol missions
Patrol missions are working better now. You can actually complete them.
If you don't plan to post any feedback about my game, could please cast a vote. So i know how other people feel about my game.

sorry to anyone who was playing while i was spamming and testing my chat updates. (not installed yet) also i disbaled a timeout featured on the server so some names have been sticking around that should not be there (ie mine when im not logged in) so If you tried to toalk to me but didnt get a response, that why there wasnt one, hehe

I have fixed the server bugs now, timeout feature is working when someone connects or dicsonnects, also a glitch that I had, (wasnoticeable when youtype and your message did not display was fixed )

What system speed are you running on? with a p3 1ghz, there is no jumping. It is possible that a few things update on that frame causing ajump.
when players are fighting vs each other, the jumping will happen, as data transfer speed are not always the same, Plus my hosting server is not all that great, but the price is right untill it gets up and running better, to the point where people want to keep on using it (my immediate goal)

Yeah, I think it's the data transfer that gets in the way...there was some talk about it on the forum a while ago. I don't know how you got around it, but I suppose that the system kinda "guesses" some "tween" points in order to get it to look realtime and smooth, and if there's lag it may jump because of this! I don't know if that's it in your case...I just remembered the thread! It wasn't on my own ship, but as you said on other player-ships! I am sure this is gonna be great, so just keep up the good work!

jumpyness
Basically its nearly imppossible to have packets from one client to another being sent at on constatnt speed. So obviously some jumping will happen, but i put in a small buffer for small jumps (instead of a full jump it does a 2/3rd jump)
Basically data is automatically sent every 2 seconds, or every key press (if someone is around) and this keeps the other ships fairly insync. from then on, its just calculating where the other players ship should be, based on speed, rotation, and keys pressed.

Hmm, sounds like a good tactic! I wonder how the yamago team got around the hypraspeed game!? Don't know if you've seen it, but it you can find it at http://www.hypraspeed.com
I know that they switch to low quality, but considering how much faster their ships are going this might work for you without having to turn off high-q !
If at some point you should want a different style for your base, I am willing to pitch in...I am a cartoon kinda guy, so if you are looking for 3D or the likes I am sure others will help BUT if this would be of interest that's the style I can offer! I checked that game out and if I took away some features and made a stable background, I would imgaine that my game could run that fast. Or a lot faster, I am curious as to the FPS that game runs at.
Obviously my game is not tweaked, and I do have some ideas how to alter the speed, for better preformance too.
Just a matter of having the time and experimenting with code.
Thanks for the offer! Im not too certain if I want to go with a cartoonish background, but something similar to what I have is what I am looking for. (although it does look kinda cartoonish)

I don't think that it needs to be alot faster - just wanted to show you how others had solved it!
There are alot of brilliant artists on the board so IF yo ushould want to change the graphics at some point, I am sure lots of people want to help make it exactly what you want from it
