    dynamic news feeds...???

    Hi All,

I am starting a site for digital compositing (yeah!!)...and was just wondering if anyone knew if there is any sort of service out there where you can subscribe to news feeds for relevant industry info..???

I figure the hardest part of my site will be keeping it up-to-date...so any automation or news feeds i can get will help ALOT!!

Cheers for all your help and time !!

use moreover services -- they also provide you with different kinds of code that you can use to get latest dynamic news. Different formats are available too.

They are still doing it free, I think.

I know what you mean -- I had trouble finding the info -- they won't win any design awards.

I am currently looking for you -- the site is different now...

oh oh -- starting prices $6,000

Why don't you send them an email asking about free newsfeed that was available a couple of months ago.

There might be something here: http://w.moreover.com/main_site/coll...s_Brochure.pdf

I am too tired to read it through -- am off to bed now.

Sorry I couldn't be much of help at this stage -- see you tomorrow.

Ok, I use myHeadlines to feed the news. You can download it from here: http://www.jmagar.com/

And see my own implementation here: http://www.rogotworld.com/headlines/

It's not only a script that feeds the news from moreover.com / newsisfree.com / magportal.com or any other feed distrubutor, it also let's the users choose the feeds they like from a huge list (Over 3000 in my implementation). But the coolest thing is that you can create scrapers to import any headlines from any site that has them (If they are structured the same every day, what is the normal case if they come out of a db), they don't need to have RSS or XML support, the scraper feeds the news directly from the html pages.

MyHeadlines only problem is that you don't have a skin system. MyHeadlines was developed for CMS systems like postNuke, Xoop and similar systems. There is a standalone version, but you have to change the layout in the main php script ... not easy.

    I hope this helps.

    Yes.

At my implementation, click subscribe, then the folder "Sample Scraped Feeds" and then the link CNN - World News. It's a scraped feed, normaly the regular feeds have no images.

If there is'nt you can make your own scrapers. It's not that hard, you just have to replace any code in the html of the news site with {dump} and the headline titles with {title_1} {title_2} ... the same thing with the links, descriptions and pictures. Only thing that is complicated is to know which part is a repeated structure part that should be in the scraper template and which part must be replaced with the dump tag.

I tryd it with www.insidecg.com/news.php , but it was not perfectly working, some headlines got missed after the feed. Anyway, here's the example of my scraper:

    PHP Code:
    {dump}<title>{site_name}</title>
    {
    dump}</HEAD>
    <
    link rel="stylesheet" href="styles.css" type="text/css">
    <
    BODY BGCOLOR=#EFEFEF LEFTMARGIN=0 TOPMARGIN=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 ONLOAD="MM_preloadImages('/menu/news.gif', '/menu/features.gif', '/menu/jobs.gif', '/menu/community.gif','/menu/search.gif','/menu/about.gif','/menu/gotnews.gif');">
    {dump}<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="8">

This are just headlines, the headline links allways open a blank page with the url of the headlines, so any source would be stupid to not allow them.
