    I'd say about treefitty....

    Tree dollas and fitty cent.

Actually, I'd say a fair charge would be about $200-$250

It's not that $200 is a little much, but it's that the current client markey has no idea what Flash animation is worth. They are a brick and mortar company who to date still has no idea how much any animation is worth.

If they did, you'd estimate the flash movie at $75-$100

thanks for the feedback everyone...my original thought was somewhere in the $100-150 range, but i didnt know for sure.

by the way, for those of you who said you wouldnt pay for it, it isn't finished yet, so you may change your minds later! and it would help to tell me what you didnt like about it, constructive criticism is always appreciated.

    thanks again!

Actually, "I won't pay it" is a common phrase any freelance web developer hears....

They say "I want 30 pages, of flash, interactive this and thats, forms, server side scripts and custom graphics...and I don't want to pay any more than $50 for it!"

It's sad but VERY true....most companies have no idea what web development is worth.....but then again most are VERY happy with crap too.....try and fig THAT one out.....

I was thinking more around $40. It takes about an hour to make something like that I imagine. Start off small to make a name for yourself. Getting experience and recognition for maybe less than you think something is worth could still help you in the long run.

ok, well that brings up another point...what do you count as chargeable hours? just time spent at the computer? or do you include time planning it too? this took me about four hours at the pc, mostly because the images they gave me were horrible (about an hour was spent in flash) but i thought about it and sketched it out for an addition couple of hours probably. im going to be surfing now for a couple hours looking for a suitable music loop. should that kind of time be included?

    thanks again!

Hey £50 is not even 2 hours work for me, even if this intro, or should I say online powerpoint, one needs to charge for your hours.

Just get better at what you do that's all, mate.

I don't use the "done in X hours" method....all my work is via a job by job basis (this usually requires that you tell them EXACTLY what they're getting so they don't nickel and dime you to death afterwards.

Humans are very callous and cowardly when it comes to paying for creative work...they scrimp and save to hold onto every penny, and to get any discount that a lie could earn them.

also, please keep in mind this can't look like the intro to a portfolio site. this project has to have a clean, simple corporate look to it, so it will match with the main site.

also im not sure what you said in your post aftereden, do all the hours count or just the ones spent on the computer?

    thanks!

well as aaron said you generally need to give a quote for your and stick to it, I know how long something will take me and I just estimate my hours and make sure I stick within those hours.

You want to charge from concept to execution, so just estimate the time you are going to take.

Oh and on your intro I still suggest you change that pixel font.

Here is an example of a job that I have almost completed, I quoted £480 for the html and flash work, and html template. So that means I needed to keep this job under 12 hours to make it worth my while, so made the intro clean and sexy and got the html done as quickly as possible.

    Html:
    http://www.netdreams.co.uk/flash/datasky/home.htm

    Html and Flash:
    http://www.netdreams.co.uk/flash/datasky/home2.htm

But my overall work ethic is, if I under quote, I will still put in loads of effort and make something look the way I think it should look.

okay aftereden, so if you had to separate the two, how much would you quote for that intro alone?

I wasnt asked to design a site, just to make a plug'n'play intro to the existing site so the colors and basic setup had to match. I was also constrained to using their images (which required a ton of retouching) and text.

I mentioned that project as an example, not as a comparison.

Tell me how many hours has it taken you to complete that project?

And if you want a straight answer, charge $150 if your clients is well impressed with what you have done charge $200.

    Don't be shy.

and aaron what are you on about with human nature
