Effects in flashmx

Hi i was just wondering that does flash mx come inbuilt with a some effects presets.....i think it does cuz in the properties panel at the bottom.....it has a effects dropdown box which i cannot click on because its grey!... if flash mx does come with inbuilt effects why cant i access them ............ itried converting my text to a symbol but no difference the box stays grey and i cannot click on it........... any help is appreciated.

The effects menu is for sound files. if you import a soundclip, you can then select the clip, and have "effects" such as fading in and fading out. Or you can set them to streamng, or events.
