It's not gonna happen, alty. There's enough mods to cover this whole site, as is. We do, however, depend on members reporting the stuff that might fall through the cracks... can't be everywhere in every thread, all the time.

A lot of members IM or e-mail me directly; however, that little "report this post to moderator" link should be used by the members if you see something that goes against the community rules.

That said... FK is a community.

I moved that thread just as I have been doing with others, when members ask about 3d software, techniques and such. That member asked about making a realistic glass sphere and in the 3d forum he got more than 1 response which wouldnt have been the case in the design board that is trying to cope with 2D PS/Illustrator/Freehand/Painter pro/Fireworks etc posts at the moment plus the usual logo and gfx reviews

We've had the 3d forum for a long time and you're welcome to use it just as everyone else. You re also welcome to PM the mods, and/or email the webmaster if you want a particular discussion redirected to another forum.

In all honesty phacker in my 2+yrs here I've seen you saying many times you are fed up with the way this place is and how is run and I still remember your posts at WH going back over a year ago where you complained about the rules we have here, but ... hey you're still here and still threatening to go. So since you arent going why not use the Feedback forum to post suggestions for improvement or email the webmaster ?

Its the adult thing to do afterall

Some of the old blood is still around and still listed in various forums here but I suspect they must feel completely burnt out with this place just as I have been.

I saw the discussions when i joined the team by well-respected mods saying how exhausted they were modding and being totaly unappreciated at the same time and Fennell did try to boost morale occassionaly by posting here thanking his team, which was a nice gesture.

For every 'thanks for your help' by a member here, you get 20 more complaints by others about 'why my thread was closed/moved/edited' etc and then the usual 'you're all Nazis on a power trip' statement to further the compliment. That aside you also have the abusive emails you get when you ban someone (Davidp has some good stories to share on that one).

I dont blame the older mods if they arent around as they used to anymore - I personally feel you can only do this for so long. I dont think members here realise that they reason why some Mods left when the community started growing is cos their job got more demanding and they eventually got too fed up with the abuse and constant whining.

I've been surfing and answering questions on the Flashkit board for a long time, but I have to say...This board bums me out. Moderators redirector posts and threads, because they don't seem to fit their view of things. Posts are closed before notifying the original person who posted. Guess my time at Flashkit is over. Feel like a dinosaur. Best wishes to those that stick it out. Wish it was back to the days when the Pope, Rosie and Mark roamed the boards.
I have to say to a large extent I agree with Phacker.

I appreciate I haven't been posting as long as some on here, but I've had very similar gripes about threads being moved (often without the "moved" link to it)without a trace, only cos I had email notification turned on could I actually find it again.

Someone pulled up Phacker for having a vague moan and not giving examples/making it known to a Mod. I did exactly that about my moved thread and was simply labelled a complainer when I felt (and still do) I had some valid points.

I do thing this place is perhaps taken a bit too seriously and over-policed, if the Mods just chilled a bit I'm sure this place would be more easy going.

Thats it rant over..I'll shut up now...but full marks for Phacker for speaking up.

    Good on you son

The 'over-policing' of these boards isnt a new issue or gripe by some and has been debated and argued here for as long as i can remember. The main argument being this however:
the founder and original team who set up this place agreed on a set of rules and a G rating which may not be your cup of tea, in which case fair enough - you are free to visit other communities that less restrictive and moderated. IMO the raeson this place is stil together, is because of these rules and moderating that ensure everyone is welcome no matter what their prof background.

The 'moved ' feature is fairly new - prior to that we had to notify members via email or would post in their thread if we saw that email notification was turned on. Some members have both disabled which means till recently there was no way to contact them unless you asked Admin to dig out their profile for the email address.

The Feedback forum is set just for that and i dont recall anyone labelling you a complainer for using it - you have used it right ? and you have emailed the webmaster or the mods about it?

But i will label someone a whiner when they spend 2+ years in this community, complaining about the same issues over and over (both here and in other flash communities), offering no solutions whatsoever and threatening to leave each time, labeling this a site for kids while they themselves are still reluctant to do the adult thing.... oh and yes they are still here. Is that constructive in any way ? and if so pls explain how?

The best and most productive boards I visit are the most heavily policed. This is one of them. however FK is still a little off the mark. I realize the mods are busy volunteers. But in my experience a short polite private message from a mod to the poster would be nice. For example, at one board I frequent, when I was new, I would on occasionally, inadvertently post in the wrong forum. In all cases I was sent a brief sticky mail with a link to the moved post and an explaination of why it was moved or edited or whatever. I was very appreciative of that as it is a very busy board and without that message, I could have potentially lost the content I had provided and that would have been annoying. If this sounds to intensive for the mods, maybe the addition of a few more mods would be appropriate. Seems like a nice courtesy to me that will make the board run smoother in the long run as well as perhaps keep the peace around here a little better.

Like this thread will probably end up in the feedback forum. Just a polite message to the originator would be nice when that happens explaining why,

Just my thoughts, take them for what they're worth.

Why is this thread even in the Lounge?

It should be in feedback if anywhere and see no reason why it even belongs here...

Now if you want to reminisce about the old days fine but please direct feedback to the proper board.

The originator of this thread has email notification turned off/ never set up/ or something of that sort. The same with PM.

It is impossible to reach him as of right now.

And yes, I moved this thread to its apropriate forum out of the lounge.

i moderated the BBC boards and they had a template you could use each time you wanted to edit or move threads and would pick a message that was appropriate which would then be sent to the user/member. It was great cos all it took was 1 click of the button but under the circumstances here itd be unrealistic to expect mods to contact members with a personalised message each time they edit/move threads especially when many members disable PM and email .

If I'm not mistaken, prior to this moderators would either move threads and post in the thread (which would send an e-mail notification), or just close the thread and tell the member to post in an apropriate forum (really, how hard is it to scroll through a list and target your post?).

I'd say that the redirect is doing members a service - they know where their post has gone, and other members don't have to deal with inappropriate content. Not to mention that I have often seen the result of a moved post be that it will receive tons more responses than it would have in the other forum - and that's why we make posts in the first place, ne?

If my memory serves me correct, i was not only called a whinger, moaner, complainer....you name it. But one of the Mods actually changed the subject of the thread to I love complaining

I don't really want to get involved with my initial thread problem again, its in the past and too boring to dig up again.

The only reason I'm joining in this thread is so that Phacker can see he's not the only one with these feelings.

For the record, i'm a regular user of several other message boards, admittedly they aren't boards about Flash but they are moderated ( no swearing or racism allowed )to ensure they're suitable for children too.....but I've never seen a board as anal as this one.

Its good fun this board but some of the stuff people get warned about from the Mods just makes me laugh. Some of you guys REALLY need to chill a bit and get off your high horse.

If you weren't Mods, some of you guys would make fantastic traffic wardens. I know I'm gonna get roasted for saying that but oh well.

    Happy new year everyone

I guess it's time for the suck up of the day, but I think the mods on this board do an excellent job considering the amount of threads they need to police every day. I'm sure I will get attacked for saying that, but it's the truth. I think there should be an FK official Mod appreciation day.

no need to call them wardens.

was that cos you spammed the CL? yes perhaps it'd be better for you if we didnt dig up the past.

Anal or not - no ones twisting your arm to come here and post. Better yet why not set up your own community, pay for it and run it the way it pleases you the most, that way you make the rules that you want and everyones happy and you can also set up the boards you want and how you want them ? hows that ?

G-rating and no warez-->really its not that hard but unfortunately for some it really is sometimes.

If some kids got out more and had a life outside AOL and IM , we wouldnt have to deal with spammers who try to see how far they can get away with before getting banned. Thats what i find anal and quite sad.

was that cos you spammed the CL?
come on Aria, spammed the CL? I posted one....1....uno.....singular post as a joke to continue the discussion with a new thread. I was hoping someone would see the funny side of it and it would lighten up an increasing heavy subject that was on the edge of getting nasty, Thats all, I wasn't saying "hey everybody look at my new board, product, services" in a true spam sense was I?

If you truly believe what I posted was spam, then I'd hate to see what you make of REAL spam on a message board, ie numerous copy and paste type junk that clog up the entire page.

ok now about this board being anal. I beg to differ. As a matter of fact i'm a member of a technical board that is very anal. some rules of that board

    1. have a question find the answer yourself, then ask the question if you still havn't found the answer. If it's a to trivial question your post will be closed, no discussion.

    2. no offtopic threads it will be closed and you risk a ban

    3. no spam, you will be banned no second chance

    4. no porn, you will be banned no second chance

    5. posting in the wrong forum will get your thread moved or closed no messages are being given.

etc.. you can get my drift. atleast here the mood is a bit chilled. It's not like i have to watch out think carefully before i post (ofcourse i don't mean you can write anything but alot is allowed) and even with spamming moderators try to warn the people before they ban them. Atleast here you can get to know people, if you find that anal i don't know what your looking for. Ofcourse there are some things that can be better but hey it's flashkit it's run by people and noone is perfect.. (well maybe CNO or Swampy ) but other then that it's only natural this board isn't always moderated perfect.
