I'm not a fan of large art based games (like yours). It is nice however, but with a little more effort in graphics and collision it could be really nice. Keep up the good work.

yeah i agree with lukstr. Art-based work for an rpg but it doesn't make it look good. Maybe some day you could make a second with it tile based. Oh and I noticed you didn't put any enemy AI in it. If you need help with the AI just ask and ill make quick fla for you. Nice game though short and boring cause you can't die unless you try to kill yourself. But all in all it was good.

    Just a few suggestions:

add in AI for the enemies....
try to sort out the fact that even if you destroy objects you can't walk thru them....
mask the player so that objects that aren't near by don't slow down the game....

    otherwise its wicked!

    Well done!

    Slowdown?

Did anyone experience significant slowdown? I did and my computer is fairly new on a DSL line. Is this common with art-based games?

    Cool

Lots of hard work although it gets boring at times and needs better graphics. I felt the length of the game was fair and I'd like to see more characters, plot, and more challenging quests. Its great to see people finishing projects through and not just brainstorming.

    Great job!

Pretty nice, I finished it and I think that it is a great game to build on. I can tell you put a lot of work into it and hope that you plan to continue improving it.

My suggestions are pretty much what everyone else said,
    More challenging quests
    Some enemies with AI
The graphics could use a little work

All in all I'd say that it's pretty cool

Hey skate342 here is another file to help you improve this great rpg.
This file has the source of the perfect hitTest done in art-based but looks like tile-based. This will make it so the hero can not go partly through an object. Find it here.

I agree with the others... the graphics need some work in order to create some atmosphere...

but most of all the empty spaces annoyed me... you walk distances and nothing happens... I would suggest condensing the whole game a little bit... take out the move around for nothing part... just takes up time in my opinion and doesn't add to the game play...

I like it... although it could use some more work...

Did you use just 1 big scrolling MC?

actually, there were two mc's for each stage, but one was inside of the other, so really one massive mc...

Would this prefent slowdowns for games with 1 big scrolling MC in it???

I'm also working on my RPG and I want to use big MC's for islands... but it's slowing down a lot...

    Nice game. I agree with everyone about graphics, AI, etc. I have a few additional comments, though;

First, I died without even knowing. Those arrows and guards were handing out damage without me knowing it. If I knew I was taking damage, it could have been a different story.

Second, There aren't enough NPC's, and no reason why I should be picking up all those coins. (except for the bag of coins, of course).

Third, It was quite amusing to climb the castle all the way to the third floor, only to find a trapdoor leading to the dungeons.

    Appart from that, it's cool.

PS. I've notice in a number of RPG's that the creators stretches out the game by having a main 'quest' (finding the lombardy jewel), and to achieve this 'quest', they have many 'sub-quest' without which you cannot achieve the main quest. It's like the guy at the door wanting you to retrieve the bag of gold before he'll let you through. The 'retrieving-of-the-gold quest' should be more challenging. etc.

    sorry. just my 2c worth...

More PS. I'm not sure why I should be finding the lombardy jewel...
