okay guys, i've found myself very reluctant to announce an *internet first*
yes thats right. YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST
only reason why im going to announce it is... is because i have one of the most sought after domains for the exact purpose... yeah now im waffling on and ive just got into work and can hardly talk this early in the morning for that matter... but still...
now... im not the world's best programmer...
i have to be a fairly good all round designer... nothing spectacular
but... i have these really inspired moments that can keep me innovating and dreaming up new **** all the time.
i need your help.
turn your browsers to....
http://www.want2cam.com
read what the site's about.
it has a rough design.. and the php code is half finished... but the concept is there!
my idea is to have flashMX and the flash comm server interact....
i need a swf that allows me to host a webcam application online... take a photo of the user and store their photo locally to the server...
any questions really... details have been a bit sketchy...
but any help would be much appreciated and would look great on your CV/ resume to be part of such a big website
want 2 cam?
ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING THE TEAM?!?
-
Hey -
I got your cam recorder right here!
Let me know how you want it. I'm toying with the flash-com server alot these days. Would be fun to have an actual project, vs trying to think of ways to use it and at the same time learn something.

what's so great about that domain? I think http://www.edmack.com is the best domain in the world.. Want to have involvment in it on your cv?
-
Ed - you obviously haven't seen the latest Forbes?
Anyway, I don't know how great the domain is... but I'm itching for ideas to use this flash-com server for, and well, if I can link to a site where I did some work then I'm generally happy, or better yet, have a site where I did some work link back to me. What offDaHook is looking for is a simple app. It could be done in a few hours.

and edmack.com is about guns by the look of the name of the domain?
heh sorry... but want2cam.com is already more appealing than the static http://www.camcontacts.net (full of ppl using fake photos... which i wish to eliminate)
AND IT HASNT EVEN GOT ANY CONTENT YET!

surfacing again
hey ppl
lets get the ball rolling again!

will this be something like iFriends? Using FCS to have integrated webcam chats is a great idea, but you'd better get on it. No doubt there are a few companies that had been waiting for the full release of fcs for a long time, after having come as far as they could go with the betas.
Has anyone here had 1000 connections to their flashcom server? i dont know if there is a way to simulate this kind of connection in order to test.
id be glad to help. just let me know your progress so far.
-
firstly, what is ifriends? url pls?
i'd love to see anyone steal an idea like this... ive already sent a recorded delivery to my home address, and im not opening the pack i sent, which contains details of the plan!
as good as being officialy copyrighted
after doing a bit more research, a connection to the server lasts less than a second.
with 800,000 members (estimated), how many people do you think will upload their photos at the same time?
less than 10? more than 10?
i reckon a popular site like google only recieves around 1000 requests at one particular time (per second).
alot of research is going into this site, i'm going to set up a developer domain, discussion forum too.
thanks alot guys n gals

Webcam communities:
ifriends.net
anywebcam.com
datecam.com =---> a full FCS implementation.
i think connections that involve streaming video through any kind of server last longer than one second. And connections to fc stay active until you close the connection. Maybe as long as the user is previewing their own image, and taking test pictures...they may be connected at that time. (depending how you do this)
Im sure with 800,000 users more than 10 would try and upload at once. Once you open the doors all the members that you have already are going to want to get started. If its not more than 10 of them then what good is all this time spent.
So what do they do after that?
Isnt there going to be ANY video on this site?
-
there will be NO VIDEO on the want2cam site...
snapshot videos will be taken to upload member's photos.
i suggest you visit www.want2cam.com and read the main principles in the FAQ mate
thanks for your help guys... its almost there
-
with no video why do you need flv files? how about a jpeg.
plug a camera in to windows xp. take snapshot. upload.
its all built in.

Almost done over here
Hey guys I just got paid to make this Full FCS date site. I am almost done. http://www.thedatezone.com
http://www.operationdreamland.com
-
oh crap
thats really bad news for me
genius idea tho... its mine
but apart from that it wont catch on cos the interface is crapola
-
this thread is no longer - nor was it ever - about FCS...
-
rborg wtf are you talking about?
im using fcs to take photos online, the community is for people with webcams only
i will not allow any other way to upload photos, that could be deemed as 'fake'
i still need the support, but comments like yours will lock a thread like this
-
check out camtasia. perfect for those times when you need to simulate a webcam but dont have one.
www.techsmith.com
offdahook, i am trying to help you out. i have been trying to determine why you need fcs since you were complaining about the cost of it and want to try and get away with 10 connections.
if you think that using flash will weed out all 'fakes' from a webcam site i assure you it wont. yes, maybe a lot less fakes...but the ultimate way to prove you have a real webcam is to show VIDEO!
-
actually, this should actually help you out, in case you didnt know this
if you check Camera.name you can get the name of the device being used. check it for 'camtasia etc.' and deny access to it if that is what they are using.
-
but still photos are as good as the flash comm server videos
they're just 1 frame of a video recorded...
as i realised there may be a number of peadophiles, pervs, etc using cardboard cutouts, camtasia (thankyou so much for the info), child actors...
im currently implementing a reporting system for any users that refuse to cam after contact is made.. so to personally (between myself and the admin team, with the end user) establish if the photo matches the live video feed
yes this has all been carefully planned out
I am currently working on the php backend
thanks for your help
