    All my .swf icons changed

All of them, in every folder. They're no longer the little orange flowery things; now they look like a generic text file, with MM's slick little "f" on them. I share my computer with someone who was at Shockwave today; cookies were on and I think it happened then...
    anyone else?

You looked to see if its your file assoications?
Go to explorer - Tools -> File Types - in there you should be able to chage it back

Cookies can't change your file settings (or at least I hope not for your sake).

    yep, yep

There are certain files, by macromedia, whcih (when downloaded) act as a shockwave player. This happens if you do the installation of Flash MX thingy, coz u get the shockwaves players with it...
If you don't like it there's one way I know to change the way something opens...

Locate your file (a .SWF one) click it once, with the left mouse button (depending on the layout of your mouse) the hold shift and then right click it, scroll down the menu, and don't click open, you'll see Open With, select open with, locate your old player, open your file with it, and taddaaa!!!!, and if you want to use that every time make sure that the little box saying 'always use this file to...' is ticked.

Everything I say is the truth.
The above statement is a lie.

    Macintosh? You should've said...

Restart your computer with apple-option held down until it asks if you want to rebuild the desktop, click yes.
