    Well... I use Illustrator. I own Freehand 10 and looking at Freehand MX looks like it will be a great addition to my arsenal of design tools. Some things you can do in Freehand that can't be done in Illustrator and vice versa, I'd say learn 'em both. It never hurts to have extra skills under your belt. If you're just starting vector design and Flash is your main focus, start off with Freehand MX...

    I use Illustrator but... I have often experienced trouble when importing stuff into Flash... and this is pretty much the only reason I have Freehand around... because you can import easily from Illustrator into Freehand and then from there into Flash... I only do this when problems arise... but that seems to be often enough! Also Freehand has a perspective feature which looks pretty cool.. but I have never been able to get that to work the way I want...
