Er yeah - it was me that said it was only 80mph. Please tell me you knew I was joking?

dang, and I told my brother he broke the sound barrier the other day when he took me on his bike to see a friend. He kept arguing that he didn't hear the sonic boom and I kept telling him that was because it was in front of him.

the speed of sound in the right conditions is 80mph.
However to break the spead of sound in your automobile there are a few problems.
1. You can not use an internal combustion engine as the air is not dense enough to support combustion. (perhaps with a high preasure enough supercharger it would work).
2. You would need a electrical car with modified systems as many systems in your automobile require vacums in relation to normal air preasure. The preasure of course would be much lower than normal as the air would need be very very thin. This thin air would greatly reduce the need for power as air resistance is the greatest force to overcome when reaching high speeds. While rolling resistance force increases linearly with the speed of a car, air resistance increases exponentially.
3. You car would need to be preasurized, at the air preassure low enough to yeild an 80mph speed of sound you blood would boil, and you would bleed out through your nose, ears, eyes and mouth.

who cares about the speed of sound....how about the speed of gravity...which is said to be equal to the speed of light in a vacuum

Ah yes, but if gravity is an effect on something, and a vaccum is nothing, how can light ever be equal to the speed of gravity, as gravity, by definition, can only exist when there is somehting for the force to represented against.

but thats the perfect time to debate about particle physics.
