Beginner seeking help!

I admit that I'm comming out of the gate as a full on beginner, I feel I've learned most of the basics behind flash animation, but I'm lacking in the actionscript department. If possible, would anyone care to help describe how I would put together a "mini game" along the lines of the old Mortal Kombat minigames in which you press a set key to fill up a power gauge. I'm hoping to do something along those lines, only that the animation along with this action is changing more and more until the meter is filled. My best example would perhaps be a balloon.. pressing a button or alternating buttons over and over rapidly will fill it... and when you finally reach the top of the meter, it will pop. I'd appreciate any help in creating something like this.

in fact, there was a thread about that several days ago, and i think the question was quite the same; maybe do a search, either via the search button above, either via looking for the latest threads here (maybe page 2 or 3?)...

i hope you'll find something. if not, post again...
