It's a game made for a client. The graphics in the game are based on artwork supplied by the client. It has 5 different levels and it is aimed at children aged 6 - 12.
Since the game is in Dutch, here are the instructions:
----------------------------------------------------
Arrow keys: move left, right, jump and duck.
Control key: keep it pressed down to run instead of walk.
Pick up the bones for points, and the magic potions for extra lives.
Avoid the cats, bees and the other dogs.
----------------------------------------------------
What I'd really like to know is if the game is too difficult (I've played it over a 100 times, so I can't really tell anymore, but the client thinks it's pretty hard)
Any other comments are also welcome, and I hope you enjoy the game
(the game is 226 kb, so it might take a little while to load for 56k users, but it has a preloader)
i also think its too difficult.
i also found it annoying that i couldn´t do anything against the cats and the big bonzo dog.
i´d love that game if you could piss at enemies legs dogstyle..
anyway,as its a game for kids, making the big bonzos go away could be achieved by throwing bones close to them,so they run after it and try to get it (which could also lead to some fun jamble between two bonzos once you throw a bone when two are close to each other or let one bonzo slip off the plattform if he doesn´t realize where to stop while attempting to get the bone..).
the same could be achieved with fish for the cats...
anyho, keep it up,nice to see you on the board here and then
not a bad game....maybe a little too difficult for a kid. It is kind of easy to fall off the platforms thought.
I do agree that maybe you should add in some kind of attack...spacebar perhaps? Maybe, flicking tongue out, and tossing bones, something! After three levels of the same thing it kind of gets a little redundant and kids don't have very long attention spans!
In discussions with the client we decided not to use any ways to get rid of the enemies, so that's just not an option. I guess I'll have to make it a bit easier again.
Is it really so easy to fall off the platforms ? Are you guys using the control key to run so you can also jump twice the normal distance ?
I don't think the game is hard. It's challenging and challenge is good. I say keep it this way. I like the graphics, too, pretty simple but work well. The part I love most is when you make a long jump and then during the jump you hit the down arrow to make him look like Superman flying.
the only other thing i have to say is maybe vary the levels a bit....the same look, music and enemies gets kind of repetative. Don't know if you had this planned already, but that will keep kids better interested!
I dont find it to be that hard. As well, when I was 5 I was kicking butt on the NES w/ the Ninja turtles (much harder in my opinion, those damn underwater bombs!) Anyway, one bug to report... If you just while walking, then hit control is speeds up your velocity which isnt quite right. So, just check before the jump if CTL is being held and vod=id its pressed mid air . The music is annoying, but thats why you can turn it off, right? It seems though, little kids dont mind things like that. Its the adults playing with them that do more times than none. Keep us posted!
hey, great game!
I have some things that you could work on, though they might be a little repetitive...
- most important! change the music! maybe make it different for each level
- make each level have a different theme, for example, an ice world, where there are walruses and penguins instead of cats and dogs, maybe the decay of the dog is a lot less, so there is less friction on the 'ice' when he runs
- (make the music for each level apply to the leve [ie iceWorld has 'icy' music])
- there is a problem when you can press <cntrl> in the air to make him go faster
- maybe you could make two layers of a background to add depth, but probably not more then two because that would slow down the game. make the further away layer scroll slower, and the closer one scroll a bit faster
