    Hi grish

thanks for your comments - i think i am going to try loading the movies into a _level in stead to see what happens - although untill macromedia create a command that specificaly KILLS an incomplete loaded movie then i fear the problem is hear to stay.

I submitted the media control bar i programmed for bubblemedia.co.uk to flashkit 1 week ago. But it hasn't apeared yet.

I don't normally give out code but there has been loads of requests for a good media control bar. So anyone who is interested can download it HERE

Oh if anyone does use it please remember to credit www.bubblemedia.co.uk thanks...

    help please

im starting up a movie channel just small time. powertoys channel adult channel em-tv channel and a built in chat room.

ive been wondering what would be the best format to stream 24/7 video to the web. i like /love macromedia stuff but do they cater for streaming 24/7 and even if they did would they be the cheapest /best option.

qt is my second choice i like the way you can creat a custom window to play your video in.no doubt flash could do this too.im a big screen buff.so this video is my fav one by robbie williams feel video.you can enlarge the screen at will (right click)

any help eternally gratefull im unemployed and hope to make a living from this

Flash Communication server is the way to go for streaming Flash video, chat and other interactive content 24/7.

You could have the video and the chat in the same interface if you wanted to.

    cool

i have a apache http server for my site at the moment.

and i run the chat server off there too. (123flashchat)

    runs sweet as a nut

ive tried the method of embedding the video in my time line and it works great whats the pros/cons of doing it this way as opposed to communication server and also if itys this easy where does streaming fit in.convential streaming as in qt or real wmp etc.

ps ill check out comm serv now.

Yeah, you'd have to buy Flash Comm Server if you went down that road.

If you don't use Flash Comm Server you won't be able to stream Flash video in the conventional sense, only progressive download it using an .flv. You can use the new Flash MX 04 media components to do this, or make your own player. You can also load the video as a swf file, as it sounds like you are doing now.

With Flash Comm Server you can properly stream video and audio, as well as create chat, whiteboard presentations, video and text chat etc. All this content wil all be able to play through the Flash Player, reather than having separate technologies. Way too much to explain here. See examples and explanations here:

I like the QT/Live Stage Pro delivery like the Robbie Williams piece - but you will eventually run into some problems with RSTP and firewalls (the QT streaming technology) and the lackluster QT player saturation and version issues.

Streaming with http via the new .flv format in Flash or with MX6 is a good low investment method.

I agree, if you want an easy and cheap solution that's going to be able to be seen by a very wide audience, encoding your video as .flv or swf and loading it into a Flash interface when needed is a great solution.

No streaming server needed, plays through the Flash Player 6 (for swf) or Flash Player 7 (for swf and progressive download of .flv).

Yes, the Flash Player 6 has a much wider distribution than either windows media or QT. Great quality video (probably not as good quality as QT, but smaller files sizes).

I like the fact that you can easily have animated text and graphics, and complex interactivity in the same interace while the video is downloading and playing, all with the same technology and Player. That's hard to go past.

p.s. I've come to the conclusion that if you have video with a lot of talking heads, and are encoding it for the Flash 6 Player, Flash may not be your best solution. I have had big problems with lipsync. The audio often lags behind. Maybe it's my encoding, but I have seen this as a known issue.

    seen the light

i must agree after reading your views that flashcomm is the way to go .ive downloaded the trial version for testing.

seems to me that streaming my video one channel is £2 per hour x 24 hours x 7 days x 4 weeks = £1344.i have 3 channels in pipeline.
if i use flashcomm its £300 for flashcomm.and a T1 line costs ????????? but i can run all my channels off the T1 and flashcomm.so ill save quite a bit.need to get those advertisers in to pay for it all.heheh

so whats the best encoder or do i just import my movies into flash like the tutorials show.and thats it.

please help im new to video

    thanks guys/gals

You can use Sorensen Squeeze or Flix to encode Flash video. They will give you better results than the basic encoder that comes with FlashMX (Sorenson Spark basic). Sorenson Squeeze uses Sorenson Spark Pro to encode.

    For flix check out:
    http://www.wildform.com/

The moderator here Jonathan_B can give some advice on that, as he is commercially involved with Flix I believe.

Macromedia favours Sorensen of course, as they are commercially partnered with them.
    http://www.sorenson.com/

I haven't used Flix, but I believe they both do a good job.

    thanks again

keep the info coming as i read i learn and am applying it bit by bit to my business model as it were.
i just need to pull in some advertisers to pay for the t2 line and the 3 flashcomm servers i need hehe
oh and 1 apache http server.
the price i was quoted for streaming to wmp was £1344 per month for one channel.doing it your way its costing me £2100 set up costs spread over say 12 months is 175 month.
    T2 connection 1100 month.
    domain reg £25 month.

tot out £1300 month for 3 channels hehe happy me.
so technically i can share by the 3 channels = 433 per channel total bargain.

and now for the encoding software. the bit i been waiting for the actual content.

    seems to me

seems to me like the flix is catering mor efor mx than sorenson.i also like the way you can stretch the window at ease.all the showcases for sorenson were to be played in qt or real where by the flix one was in a flash window.which is what im trying to acheive.hehe

think i might go with flix.dury still out though

aa - I have a question for you

I just bought Sorenson Squeeze. I compressed the video and it looks okay... I have to allow for 56k modems

You talked about a 40% buffer - how do you do that. Do you set that in Flash or Squeeze. Or if anyone else knows what he was talking about. I would appreciate any assistance

    Thanks
    Jason

    Code:
    if(this._framesloaded>(this._framestotal*.4)){
        this.play();
    }

Are you showing the viewer the progress in some way? Build it into that. If you're still lost, post the question in the general forum.

    greetingsAll

I work with Warder Brothers Productions, a video and music production company.

We recently published a flash website with some video clips of our work available to view. We used QuickTime on an HTML page for this purpose.

    The site is located at:

    http://warderbros.com

Now we feel like incorparating the video in a .swf file for better compatibility.

Are there any disadvantages to going with flash? I read somewhere about not going over 320x240.

I use cleaner xl for compression.

What do you think about the best delivery in our case? Should I make Windoze Media available as well?

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

the lads here have talked me into using flash com server to stream my video.and to be honest its saving me a fortune.heheh
just hope when i get round to encoding its as good quality as your music video

thanks. in my case, however I don't need to stream.

I used cleaner xl at default quickTime settings for this comression...
I understand cleaner is also useful for streaming purposes.
Has anyone used cleaner xl or cleaner 6 to stream video? or compress video for streaming?
