    video conversion

    Hi:
I've been searching the boards and gaining a wealth of information. I noticed that SWido is recommended a lot for converting video file formats to be used in a Swish .SWF movie.

Question..... is this product (SWideo) a good product for commrcial pruposes. Is there a better program without necessarily going to the expense of Flash MX??

    Thank you for your help.

    Swideo is popular/
    flix is popular.
Flix pro has some impressive features
    http://wildform.com

Sorenson is expensive and considered to be the best
    in compresssion to quality
(not in my eyes but to many in the flash community)

There is a new product called Cam studio.
that will convert avi only to streaming swf format.

While it doesn't allow for various file format converions
to swf nor does it allow for the passing of variables.
It can be the perfect tool for those whom just want to stream
    video.

    It's also free

    As for professionals
Some seek the most expensive simply to claim they have
    expensive tools
Some professionals are concerned with budget.
Smart professionals base what they will use on what specifically
    will be there needs.
Taxi cab drivers arent' known for driving ferrari's just because
it will get the fair to his/her destination quickly.

And no television station uses gold cables for video connections.

    Video Conversion

    Hi Frets:
Thank you for your response. I'll check out each of them. I plan to use the video conversion tool more for CD work than for the web. I haven't done any video on CD at this point but would rather have everything researched out so when the time comes I'm not trying to figure out what is the best product for displaying clear video using Swish on a CD presentation.

I'm also tyring to avoid obtaining a sofware package that won't deliver.

Frets do you do video on CD or otherwise?? .... if so what software do you find the best for you and why? (I hope I'm not breaking any rules by asking this question.)

Any further help you could give would be appreciated. Again, thank you for your quick response.

    Blessings

well if it's video the two big things are fps and color.
regardless of what format you plan to use ultimately for
    cd production.

As your not concerned with file size One thing to be aware of
Slow cd roms/older computers will slow an swf down.
Uncompressed avi runs at 30 fps a second. and more is a waiste

Because mpeg is a compressed format regardless of how you convert
it the format will expand in swf to the same file size it would be
    if it were avi.

One tool I'm very impressed with although it has an odd archetecture
    is qmb http://www.quickmediabuilder.com
where by you can preserve your video format and play them in the display area as well it doesn't convert the swf to exe but it allows
swf's to run in the program. When qmb assembles it makes sure
all registered dlls are placed in the folder so there are no
pop-up players or failure to execute.

    That's just me though.

If I were you I'd check out Dead Rabbit.
CD production is his life. He's had more experience with CD presentations then anyone hanging around the swish forums.

    I think that's Quick Menu Builder. www.quickmenubuilder.com

As for finding me - I'm usually right here in Swish Help
While changing my profile, I accidentally clicked the link that said
"Add 'Dead Rabbit' to your Ignore List"
so now I can't talk to myself anymore...

One thing to be concerned about with video and swf.

Swf has a physical limitation of 16,000 frames

Another nice feature about Cam studio.
If the movie is larger then 16,000 frame cam studio
will split movies that surpass the 16,000 limit.

    Frets

    thanks for correct link DR

    Frets:
Thank you again for your help and suggestions. I have received such great info through these Swish forums. Thank you again.

The only problem that I have encountered (through reading the qmb forums) is that quick menu builder seems to have a bug that will not allow it to run on W95, W98 if the menu was built using a newer OS. I don't know if they have resolved this bug issue yet.

Dead Rabbit thank you for the updated url.

    Blessings
