just to clarify : video 'n flash

    hi there

just wanted to try and clarify what I think are the issues bout flash 'n cdroms, ; in case i got it all wrong, or stunning new developments have happened in the third party stuff.

i have encountered the following problems that have lead me to Not use flash for video/cd stuff, anyone have anything to add, aggree or disagree
(in terms of using FlashMx to create projectors with flash video segments (say 5mins - 45mins worth)

    - flash cant do more than 16000 frames - which limits video considerably

    - flash loads into ram so a big swf file chokes

    - you can get around this by breaking stuff up or "stitching" da movies but that is not ideal for long sequences of video, and makes it much harder to have something like a video controller that shows where you are up to in the video for All the video chunks, not just the current file that is loaded and viewing.

    - flash video compression (soreson) is great for the web and gets files down low, but is not necessarily the best compression when you are creating bigger files like you might on a cd (??- say like mpeg1 or mpeg4 -not so sure bout this statement?!)

    - flash video has audio synch problems which seem (in my epxerience)
to start with files that go over a few minutes gernerally, and that i have found no fix for yet -(like seperating video, having it on the main timeline etc i have been out of the loop so might have missed something , i hope so )

does this sound about right>? any different epxeriences or suggestions?
    cheers
    ss

Depending on your needs, one of the commerial third party projector tools may offer a solution. Most of them allow you to play external video clips as if they were embedded in the Flash window. This allows you to keep the video quality high without overburdening Flash.

    thanks northcode

    thanks northcode

i have been slowly getting through some of these links looking at the various demos and such, a couple there i have seen before.

am i right in thinking that none of these develop on the mac? also seems as a general rule that they rely in wmp, or at least in the case of Flash Studio and Flash Jester,
it would be my preference to be running qt. and general i am building stuff on a pc.
    and need cross platform exe's.

i know it is a much more expensive alternative than those sugested above but i am also looking into livestage pro as a possibility, - anything to avoid director really!

cheers for your info, i will check out all your links.

Yes *********** doesn't work on the Mac only the PC.

It is better we find to keep the movie file as it is and use a player to play them.

Northcode hasn't mentioned JMovie so we'll give you a breif detail about it

    ::: Your Movie Projector :::

The latest addition to the JTools supporting cast, JMovie, allows you to play Avi's as well as Mpeg files, some Quick Time Movies and many others directly from your Projector files. This clever cinematic feature is made possible by Windows Media Player ActiveX controls.

With JMovie, you're in control of how this JTool looks and plays. Regardless of your movie format, JMovie will load in the exact position and size you want. When you're ready to show the movie, you can play it once, loop it or even select certain scenes.

JMovie & all *********** products support Flash 3/4/5/MX & Windows
    95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP

Plays *.mpg, *.mpeg;*.dat;*.avi;*.mov, *.wmv, *.asx, *.asf, *.wmp, *.wmx, *.mpe, *.m1v, *.mp2, *.mpv2. If you can play your Video file in Windows Media Player then you can play it in JMovie!

    Sounds good ?
