Win2Nix Migration CD or the Real Windows Companion CD project
Okay,
What is this thread about. Its simple there was a thread on Freshmeat about how there isn't enough Commonality between Linux and WIndows and how migration may be hard from Windows 2 Linux becuase of to much freeware.
So basically lets start a list of Cross Platform Linux/Windows apps that are free and burn them and toss them up on Ebay for .50 cents a piece or sell them on Cafe Press or Burn them and give them to your Mum, people at Circuit City/Best BUY/ ECT ECT.
1.Basically point out apps that are cross platform
2. Point out Free apps
That way people could translate over to Linux easilly and pain free as their favorite apps are on both platforms.
Lets start this off;
1. Open Office

Word processing, spreadsheets, basic darwings, presentations, ECT ECT.
2. Video Lan http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html
Plays almost every Video type
3. DNA Helix, Client, Producer, and Server https://www.helixcommunity.org/ All you need to make, watch, and serve streaming Media content. All cross platform.
4. Mozilla http://www.mozilla.org/ Email, Basic Web Pages, Chat, Web Browser.
5. TuxPaint http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/tuxpaint/ basic paint app.
6. Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ sound recording and cutting.
7. DrawSWF http://drawswf.sourceforge.net/ basic cross platform SWF producing app. (This is Flash Kit after All ) They of coars will need Real Java and not the Junk Java from MS... http://java.sun.com/getjava/
8. DIA a very well done Viso Like APP http://www.lysator.liu.se/~alla/dia/
9. Free Civ http://www.freeciv.org/ Gotta have some Games.
10. http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/ Gotta have more Games
11. SodiPodi http://sodipodi.sourceforge.net/ SVG for everyone
12. http://www.mysql.com/ Server Relational Database.
13. Firebird relational Database http://firebird.sourceforge.net/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/firebird/
14. SSWF http://sswf.sourceforge.net/ tools for scripting SWFS (Cross Platform)
15. Wide Studio http://www.widestudio.org/EE/index.html Visual IDE (Cross Platform) windoze version comes with GCC.
16. KOF91(Windows) http://www.kof91.com/ and FFE (Linux Version) http://sourceforge.net/projects/koflinux Gotta have even more games.

gotta ask... do you know of any IDE's, visual interfaces, or visual way of controlling Apache and MySQL like IIS and MS SQL 2000?

Nahh Knoppix is a Linux Distro- You have Knoppix you have already crossed over. Likewise Dragon Linux is the same way http://dragonlinux.sourceforge.net/ although Dragon Linux is a Full Blown Download on my Hard Drive Linux. Likewise you have Coyotee Linux for the floppy sized linux http://www.coyotelinux.com/
