how to remove a color from an image?

I have several paintings (like the one in my avatar) and I will like to get rid of all the black color from a painting at once. Is there a quick way to do this with photoshop or fireworks without using the magic wand tool?

In Photoshop under the Select menu, there is an option to choose Color Range. You pick a color, and can determine the range of color. Once selected, just hit delete to get rid of the unwanted color.
