    corporate colours

    Hi
is there any rule in using tints of a corporate colour on a web page or advert.

    For example:
look at this site, although there are hundreds of others that fall in the same category
    http://www.ntl.com/index.html
the corporate colours are purple, green and white.

But it also uses tints of the purple to present the data.

Basically, i am designing a site whose colours are orange, black and white.
Obviously i want to promote the brand, but say i have a large section of text, if i made the background of the text the full orange colour it is too over-powering and not nice on the eye.
Wheras if i followed the link above and used a 20% tint of the orange the text and layout look and flow a lot better.

But is this still promoting the company brand even if the full orange is used elsewhere on the site.

different hues and tints of the same color are up to the designer. If you feel you need to tint a color so that it is not as strong, I would do it as long as it still stays true to the company's colors. I have done it before and clients like to see creative things doen with their logo and colors.
It must be obvious day at camp stupid
